Leucate, a preserved natural area

 

Leucate, is at the same time 18km of Mediterranean coast and 31 km of sea pond shores, chennals, harbour ponds and islands.

Peninsula located between the Mediterranean sea and the ponds, Leucate is a unique natural site !

 

 

 

 

 

Leucate is the gateway to the Regional Natural Park of the "Narbonnaise in Méditerranée". Covering 100 000 hectares, the park benefits from an exceptional diversity of landscapes with varied flora and fauna.


The Leucate pond welcome more than twenty oyster farmer who are raising there the famous oyster "Cap Leucate", with its chesnut taste.

 
Leucate is a crossroads between the Mediterranena sea and the land, between the Corbières mountain range, the Canigou peak and the sea pond.
    
The cliff and the plateau are exceptional sites as well scattered with hiking trails drawing a historical labyrinth allowing a unique discovery of Leucate's assets.

On the other side of the plateau, the magnificent beach of the Coussoules is streching along. The site, classified as "Natura 2000" is a natural treasure, protecting a precious fauna.


The two labels, Pavillon Bleu and France Station Nautique, are the tesminony of the qualuty and the effort of preservation of the Leucate's nature.
