Gastronomy
The Mediterranean village of Leucate and its alleys invite you to stroll.
Walking there is the occasion to discover, nestled in the heart of the village, local producers of biscuits,confectionery or olive oil ; and also nice restaurants with sunny terraces, restaurants which are mainly cooking local products.
Wine Growing
Beated by the winds, licked by the sea and the pond, fed of scrubland ; teh vineyards of Leucate draw their plenitude and their bouquet from the richness of their contrasted territory.
The Cap Leucate wineyards raise 3 famous labels, whom the oldest protected designation of origin of Red wine from Languedoc-Roussillon, in the wine storehouse La Prade, at the entry of Leucate Village.
Shellfish farming
The shellfish farmers are growing their shells in the oyster center : oysters, mussels, clams and even imperial shrimps on the banks on the grau.
Twelve months a year, the oyster farmes welcome you in their "mas" for a tasting of famous "Cap Leucate" oysters with a fine flest and a taste of hazelnut, served with a glass a local wine !

Fishing

Fishing in the sea pond has long been a local tradition celebrated each year during St Peter's day in June.
Two fishing techniques have always been used here in Leucate : - The first one with traditional fishing nets away from the cliff or along the sand benches on the coast.
- The second one consisted in stretching a fishing net connected with the groundby a rope by mean of a boat. Then the fishermen lead back the fished which are trapped in the net, since the beach. It's called "Pêche à la caluche" or "Pêche à la seine".
The local speciality remains the 'Bourride d'anguilles' or marinated eels also called Pignato.
Fresh fish can be bought from the local fishermen located near the Central Pond.
Every morning, fishermen are selling freshly fished fish on the "quai des pêcheurs" in the central pond of the Port.
Throughout the seasons, the flavours of Leucate also wait for you on the stalls of markets ! Day-markets, night-markets, world-markets, craft-markets or organic-markets ; all flavours are in Leucate !

Label "Assiette du Pays" ( "Plate of the country")
The restaurants "Le Clos de Ninon" at Leucate Village and "Le Golfe Clair" at Port Leucate, obtained the label "Assiette du Pays" which rewerds the initiatives to emphasize local producers.
